Bates Fundamentals picked up a Nike EYBL contract last season because of their marquee namesake, Emoni Bates, who is currently the #1 freshman in the nation. The Ypsilanti, Michigan native currently plays 15u on the Nike EYBl after leading Lincoln high school to a Michigan state title while scoring 30 a night.
Bates Fundamentals has expanded from their 2022 only team to feeder program, and their best feeder team right now is their 2025 team. Bates Fundamentals 2025 finished runner up this past weekend at the Dru Joyce Classic losing to Super Friends by six in the championship game.
This sixth grade group usually only plays their grade in national events, when they play in state they play up 7th or 8th grade. currently they are supporting a 33-13 record on the season counting all three levels. Three of their losses on the season have come to marquee programs in their class, the current #1 team Reach Dream Team twice and Superfriends. Marquee wins to date for them is Reach Dream Team, Super Friends, Mac Irvin Fire and the Kentucky Playmakers.
Bates has a busy month upcoming with Midwest Circuit session 4, Nike the Family in Detroit, the G3 Invitational in Indy and capping off the month in Lexington at the Ballin in the Bluegrass Event. Some standout players for Bates to keep an eye on are DeQueris Mayfield (Flint, MI) who many believe is a top 10 player nationally in the class. Others include, Armoni Portis who is from Port Huron, Michigan along with Brent Wofford and Chris McLavish Jr who are from Flint.
